The group was founded by puppeteers Nelson Haas and Beth Bado. Since then, Bonecos da Montanha has created original shows that blend popular culture, handcrafted puppets, visual poetry, and social commentary.

In addition, the group maintains a strong educational mission through workshops, artistic residencies, and inclusive projects. Their cultural space, Atelier dos Bonequeiros, is based in Gramado (RS) and serves as a creative hub for artists, families, and educators.

Moreover, Bonecos da Montanha is part of UNIMA (Union Internationale de la Marionnette), affiliated with UNESCO, and actively contributes to the preservation of traditional puppetry arts.
